Overflow incontinence refers to constant or erratic urine flow. It happens when the bladder is unable to empty properly, resulting in frequent leakage of small amounts of urine, often day and night It can be caused by a blockage or an enlarged prostate so a doctor should be consulted to identify the underlying cause. Overflow incontinence should not be ignored.

Because the bladder isn’t completely emptied, urine can remain there for extended periods of time, adding to the risk of a bladder infection, which can in turn, escalate to a kidney infection.
